Rule version
Version CA-2026-v3, approved on 2026-10-16, last validated on 2026-10-16. Rules are effective from 2026-01-01 to 2026-12-31. Published rule versions cannot be edited; corrections are released as a new version.
Calculation assumptions
- Full-year Canadian resident employee aged 18-64, single, no dependants, residing and working in the selected province or territory on 31 December 2026 and throughout the year. One CPP/EI-covered job. Quebec uses QPP, reduced EI and QPIP instead of CPP and standard EI.
- Annual wages CAD50,000-150,000; no RRSP, pension-plan deductions, union dues, taxable benefits, other income or special credits.
- CPP base 4.95% is eligible for tax credits. First additional CPP 1% and CPP2 4% are income deductions, not additional credit bases. EI is a credit base, not an income deduction.
- Federal maximum basic personal amount and Canada Employment Amount apply throughout the supported income range.
- Each province or territory applies its 2026 rates to taxable income with non-refundable credits at its lowest rate on the basic personal amount, base CPP and EI. Yukon also credits the Canada employment amount. Ontario adds its surtax and health premium. Northwest Territories and Nunavut payroll tax is 2% of all employment pay.
- Provincial low-income tax reductions are zero in the supported range: BC (CAD690 basic reduction) ends below about CAD45,000; the 2025 NL, NS and PE reductions end below about CAD31,000; New Brunswick ends near CAD49,600 (single, 2025 CAD48,653 indexed), so New Brunswick starts at CAD51,000. The Alberta supplemental credit is zero for a basic single claim.
- Mid-2026 changes use the annual 2026 rule (BC 5.60% lowest rate, NL basic amount 13,094, PE 20% above 200,000), not the July payroll catch-up rates. Benefits such as the GST/HST credit, Canada Carbon Rebate or provincial benefits are not included. Annual formula estimate, not per-pay-period withholding.
- Quebec only: CAD60,000-150,000, full-year private prescription-drug coverage, no employee insurance premiums or employer-paid taxable insurance benefits. Select the explicit Quebec profile to confirm these conditions. Public RAMQ premiums and insurance benefit adjustments are not inferred.
- Quebec federal credits include base QPP, reduced EI and QPIP. The 16.5% abatement reduces federal tax after these credits, before the separate Quebec liability.
- Quebec taxable income deducts enhanced QPP and the CAD1,450 workers deduction. The provincial basic personal credit is 14% of CAD18,952 and already accounts for social contributions. Living-alone relief is fully phased out within this income range; career-extension credits require age 65 or over.
Coverage & limitations
Rule version CA-2026-v3 · Tax year 2026. See sources, monitoring and verification status.
- Limited employee reference only. Independent professional verification pending.
- All 13 Canadian provinces and territories have limited single-employee references. Quebec is CAD60,000-150,000 with private drug coverage and no insurance premiums or taxable insurance benefits. Other provinces start at CAD50,000, except New Brunswick at CAD51,000. Married/dependant profiles, moves, cross-province work, other income and higher wages remain unsupported.
- Quebec public prescription-drug premiums, insurance taxable benefits, medical credits, career-extension credits and refundable benefits are outside this profile. Annual tax estimates are not payroll withholding or exact return tax-table lookups.
- Employer totals include CPP/QPP, EI and Quebec QPIP only. Employer health services fund, labour standards contributions, workers compensation and other employer-specific costs are excluded.
